I want a new job, but I don’t know what. Any advice?
We spend most of our lives working, which is why a job has a lot to do with how happy we feel with our life. No wonder you’re having such a hard time knowing what to do for a new job. It’s a big decision that carries a lot of weight!
The good news is that you’re doing the right thing by not just jumping into any job and thinking about what you want to do for work. That’s the first step in finding a job you’ll love.
When you want a new job, and you don’t know what, reflect on what you’ve done in the past for work. Jot down on paper what you liked about your past jobs and what you didn’t like about them. As you’re writing, you may start to see a pattern in what you like and don’t like. Write any thoughts down that come to mind.
The second step is to start visualizing what your ideal work life would look like and feel like for you. This will help your higher self come through so you’re better able to find some career clarity. Visualization is extremely effective and can be used to not only identify what you want/are meant to do, but also how to achieve your goals.
It’s also possible to figure out what you want to do for a new job by using information from tools like a birth chart, life path number, enneagram, etc. It’s amazing how accurate and revealing these tools can be for people who are at career crossroads.
A career coach can also help you when you want a new job, but don’t know what. Career coaches can guide you with the above processes AND help you afterwards with finding that amazing, new job.
Just because you don’t know what you want in a new job doesn’t mean you should get a new job. Don’t give up. This is a turning point in your life that will likely help you achieve a high level of satisfaction and happiness.
What if I’m not good at anything? Will I simply never have a good paying job?
First of all, you ARE good at something. Second of all, yes, you can have a good paying job because well, re-read the first sentence. The question – what if I’m not good at anything? – has more to do with your self-esteem than it does with your abilities. That’s the first hurdle to overcome and then you can dive into identifying your strengths and desires.
Everyone on this Earth has been created for a purpose. YOU have a purpose. You may not think so, and are either thinking “No, I don’t.” or doubting it, but it’s true.
Somewhere along your development, you were made to feel less then, and that’s not fair to you. The good news is you’re grown up, and it doesn’t matter what other people think – and actually, it never mattered.
It’s time to take control of yourself and you’re life. Despite your foundation of belief that you’re not good at anything, you really are, and once you can convince yourself of that, you can embark on the journey of discovering your life purpose.
To work on your negative belief patterns, reach out to a counselor/therapist or life coach. This person can help you understand why you feel this way and work through the process of rewriting your brain so you don’t believe you aren’t good at anything. Once you have that resolved, you can start working on what you really can do and discover what will make you truly happy in life.
I don’t want to work anymore – what should I do?
If you’re saying, “I don’t want to work anymore! What should I do?” you’re likely in the wrong career. So, the answer to your question is figure out what career won’t make you feel that way.
Now, that seems like an easy enough answer, but there’s more to it than that. The desire to not work comes from not deriving pleasure from the work you do. That’s obvious, I know.
Some people think that work is just this way – that people don’t LOVE their job – it’s just something everyone has to do to live. While a part of that is true, it’s not entirely accurate.
Yes, you have to work, but you don’t have to hate it or dread it. You could LOVE it. Don’t roll your eyes – it’s true. If you’re willing to work on it, you could get to a point where you say you actually like…or dare I say – LOVE your job.
Think about that for a moment. Think about what it would be like to like – or even love – your job. How would you feel? Exciting, right? Happy? Motivated?
Would you want to work if your job/career made you feel that way? You bet. So, that’s what you have to do. You have to figure out what will make you feel that way so you don’t feel like you don’t want to work anymore.
The way to do it is to figure out what you really want to do in this life and what you’re meant to do. There are many ways to uncover this – visualization, journaling, birth chart analysis, life path number analysis, human design and so much more.
A career coach, like myself, is the best person to help you identify what you are meant to do and help you get a job that you will fall in love with… This person will uncover some of your inner beliefs that prevent you from knowing what you should be doing for work and then bring out some options you may not have ever considered but resonate with you.
Turn your “I don’t want to work anymore” to “I want to work today because I love what I do.”.
